Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida is more commonly referred to as Florida State or FSU. This southern US academic institution was established in 1851, which makes it the oldest higher level academic institution in the state of Florida.
This university currently has about 41,000 students with 75% of these being undergraduates and the balance a mixture of graduate level and post-graduate students. The main campus is located on 451 sprawling acres, although the college also has several satellite campuses located around the state.
There is consistently a great deal of high level research projects being explored at FSU. In particular, the area of high energy physics is a core research project at Florida State University. The college receives more than $200 million in research funding each year to cover a variety of projects. FSU is also a doctoral research facility.

University Freshman Scholarship
This scholarship program is administered by Florida State University staff. For qualified applicants, a total of $9,600 is distributed over the course of four years. This is an excellence based scholarship and students must be able to demonstrate superior high school grades and testing scores.
Bess H. Ward Honors Thesis Awards
The Honors Department of Florida State University offers monetary scholarship awards of up $1,000 to several qualified candidates each year. The award is given to honors students and is intended to be applied towards research projects.
Florida Bright Future Scholarship
This award is actually available to all Florida residents and may be used at any university located in that state. There are three separate scholarships available, which are Florida Academic Scholars Award, Florida Medallion Scholars Award and the Florida Gold Seal Award. Each of these scholarships are for academic excellence and are primarily for graduating high school students.
Central Orchid Society Scholarship
For students at FSU interested in studying horticulture, botany or agriculture the Central Florida Orchid Society provides a $3,000 scholarship to qualified applicants. The recipient must have an established full time residence in one of the following counties in Florida: Polk, Lake, Osceola, Seminole or Volusia.
FSU Tuition Reduction Scholarship
This scholarship program is administered by Florida State University staff and is only available to non-Florida residents. This scholarship is merit based, so the candidates will need to show academic excellence to the award committee. The scholarship is a 50% reduction in out of state tuition cost, which amounts to an award of approximately $7,200 currently (based upon 30 semester hours over the course of two semesters). The waiver is only for tuition and is not available for related university fees.
